Amrit Kaur Lohia …….. Musician

Amrit Kaur Lohia - Publicity Still

“Be kind. Be brave. Be yourself. Be the role model you never had. I play Sarangi and sing in the genres of Punjabi Folk, Jazz and Soul. Based in London, I tour internationally as a performer, composer and workshop facilitator. As well as this, I represent young people as a Global Youth Ambassador for ‘A World at School’. I also trained as a theatre director at the Young Vic Theatre and was the Music Director for ‘Tales of 1947’ while I was studying BA & MA History at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

I believe that with a strong sense of self and empathy, every human being around the world, regardless of background, can lead change within themselves, their communities and the world around them. My role as a musician, youth worker, social entrepreneur, theatre maker and activist is to empower individuals. I want my audiences around the world to meet the sources of universal human experience – not with something learned – but something lived. I feel empowered to empower.”
