I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember and would get compliments on my work, but I didn’t think much of it, as cultural stigma prevented me from considering a career in the arts.
After taking art classes in high school, and with the encouragement of teachers and friends, I took the leap and applied to become an art major at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Thanks to a full academic scholarship, I was able to take the classes I wanted without feeling pressured by my family. I received my bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts, with a concentration in Graphic Design two years ago, and since then, I’ve been working full-time as a graphic designer. I enjoy doing illustrative and branding work, though I’ve also dabbled in web design and have recently been delving into motion design and have also been working behind the scenes in filming.
I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to pursue my dreams and to help disprove the preconceptions that some people in the desi culture seem to have about artists.
My goal in life is to use my skills and talents to help others and to promote positive change in the world.
